Basis beef seems to have a shelf-life of 2-3 days. It'south gray and slimy subsequently that.

Even if it smells bad, you can even so consume it if you boil information technology for several hours.  You'd have to be desperate to practise it, but you lot can.

Trust your olfactory organ.

If you lot've e'er spent fourth dimension around a meat grinder you've probably seen the flim-flam of cut together reddish and dark-brown ground beef and making red footing beef

Can this stuff exist used to make hamburgers?

If you accept any doubts, only make sure it's cooked thoroughly.  It's generally pretty obvious when meat goes bad.

(ETA)  That said, there has been a time or two when my nose was stopped up and I wasn't 100% sure....so I added some vinegar to the recipe.

Its probably fine. +1 to scent it.

Ground beefiness is pretty robust in the refrigerator. I know information technology has a reputation for existence more likely to exist contaminated than whole muscle beefiness, but that is a divide event having to exercise with production methods. If the beef is kept cold and dry it should be practiced for a week or more. If its bad it will smell bad. The browning is not a trouble.

If it weren't a leap year, I'd run a risk it...

I never trust basis beef unless information technology's absolutely fresh.  When they grind it, it mixes the bacteria deep into the meat.  Information technology can spoil within.

I used some burger once that was sitting in my fridge for virtually 5 days. It was dark-brown, simply I never noticed an scent. I cooked it completely, but about 4 hours after I ate it I was throwing up and shitting every 60 minutes for about eight hours. It was non pretty.
